The Play

Centurions was initially inspired by an assault Sally experienced as a child and it’s impact on her life.  Here is what people have been saying about the play.

Centurions is a creeper… a powerful and brave piece’ Rebecca Burton, Playwrights Guild of Canada

… In the end, solving the crime is less important to us than seeing Mark live fully in the material world around him. Sean Johnston, Editor, Ryga, A Journal of Provocations

… It was a thrilling process, watching this script come to life. Joan MacLeod, playwright/MFA Supervisor, UVic.

18 Year old Mark is held in a police station and interrogated about a violent crime. He holds his story close but his secrets are unearthed and illuminated for the audience via his memories, imagination, and films. It becomes clear that the crime is intertwined with another violent act–a rape- and his obsession with making films. Mark is happiest behind the camera, watching, always watching. Digital video production is integral to the premise, conflict and mystery at the heart of Centurions.
